hsct-Multiple Sclerosis

 Qualifying for HSCT

You must qualify to receive HSCT, but there are varying opinions about the acceptable level of disability. It’s probably worth enquiring specifically with the clinic where you wish to seek treatment. I am providing the criteria for Mexico, but it is different in Russia. Many treatment centers offer HSCT for many neurological disorders, but I listed requirements specifically for MS.

1) You must have a confirmed diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS, SPMS, or PPMS) or Transverse Myelitis

2) You must be deemed healthy enough to tolerate treatment safely. I had to pass lung, kidney, and heart function tests

3) You must be able to transfer yourself from a seated position with the assistance of a caregiver

4) Your EDSS should not exceed 7.0

5) You must provide MRI three months or less from the scheduled treatment date

6) You must not have a pre-existing cancerous malignancy before HSCT

7) You must be able to remain in Puebla or Monterey, Mexico, for the entire 28 day period, accompanied by a caregiver or hired nurse at the facility

8) You must discontinue all disease-modifying drugs three months before beginning HSCT

9) You must be able to travel to Mexico

10) Treatment must be fully paid two months before scheduled treatment
